715 S. York, listed by Gretchen FaberIf you’ve had the chance to see one of Denver’s Washington Park bungalows, you’d know why they’re so beloved.

Sure, you don’t get the big house in the ‘burbs, but you do have the rare opportunity to “borrow” a house and it’s history from the past and future owners.

715 South York on the east side of Washington Park is just such a charming bungalow.  Nestled into one of Denver’s premier neighborhoods, and listed by Gretchen Faber, this home has been lovingly maintained, updated and restored.

Visit the online presentation for the full picture of 715 South York and “contact me” for more information or to schedule a showing.  You’ll find the perfect Wash Park home with a rare upstairs bedroom and bath priced competitively at $550,000.

Memorial Day Gaylord Street Festival, Washington Park Neighborhood

This weekend is the annual Gaylord Street Festival in Denver’s Washington Park neighborhood.

Gaylord Festival, Washington Park There’s something for everyone at the Gaylord Festival:

Afternoon showers are likely this weekend so head over this morning or tomorrow. We walked Duke there yesterday and he was excited to run into his long lost buddy, Whiskey. They came together from the same doggie prison in Texas and haven’t seen each other in awhile.

You Are Going to Love The Tavern Restaurant in Denver’s Washington Park

When we eat out, we usually stick close to home.  We often choose to walk to a nearby restaurant, and last week we chose the newly opened Tavern Wash Park.

This The Tavern Wash Parkis a high energy take on the other Tavern Restaurant in the Lowry neighborhood.  Mainly because it’s much smaller.  The menu is very casual, and they’re currently advertising a “romantic” Valentine’s dinner, which I just can’t picture.  It will probably be more like a Valentine’s dinner with the rest of the neighborhood celebrating along with you.

My son and husband both chose the Stuffed Stromboli, and I got a nicely prepared bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup.  My favorite part was the Cosmopolitan. I think it was the best one I’ve had in Denver (so I actually had two).  Good thing we were walking…

The Tavern Wash Park is located on Old South Gaylord Street in the former Las Margaritas location.  They also serve brunch for those of you who are morning people!  I hope this restaurant lasts, and judging from the crowd, I think it will.

Denver real estate has picked up some serious steam, and I received two offers on a listing of mine this weekend.  Prepared to buy or sell?  Drop me a line!

Breakfast in Denver

It’s been awhile since I’ve written about a great local restaurant. Lately, I’ve been concentrating on real estate information. The recent stressful developments all over the news makes me think that getting a fine cup of coffee and a great breakfast treat would be a welcome distraction.

Devil’s Food is just the place. Located on Gaylord street, Devil’s Food is a bakery and restaurant serving up imaginative fare at a low key pace. I went there recently with a client and while we talked about Denver real estate, we enjoyed an omelete, fresh fruit and yummy bakery goods. The service is neighborly and easy going. Attentive but non-intrusive.

Parking is usually easy to find, but occasionally you’ll need to drive around the block once to get a space. Leave 5 extra minutes to park and walk a block or so, if needed. Walking along Gaylord street is fun, you can window shop all the way to breakfast.

There is a wonderful bakery case at Devil’s Food for picking up to go items. You’ll find not only breakfast treats, but desserts to take home for a special occasion. It’s probably a good thing you walked a block…

The Washington Park neighborhood appeals to both urban buyers, and people who love the feel of a homey neighborhood. The park, the neighborhood shops and restaurants, people walking dogs and pushing strollers give you a sense that not much has changed from 30 years ago (aside from all of the new construction adding more livable space to the homes).

The markets will go up and down and we’re definitely in for interesting, and quite possibly stressful, months ahead. Remember that a great stress-reliever is taking time to stop and smell the roses, a meal with a friend and a chocolate brownie.

If you are interested in other restaurants on Old South Gaylord Street in Washington Park, you should visit Washington Park Grill.

Gaylord Street Festival

Our favorite thing to do with our boys on Memorial Day weekend is walk over to the Gaylord Street Festival and celebrate the beginning of summer. We used to watch the kids bounce in the blow-up castle. Now, they’re too big for that and prefer the climbing wall.

There are booths with crafts, a kiddie carnival, plus the shops and restaurants are all open, and the neighbors are out enjoying the day with you. If you’re in town this weekend, don’t miss it!

Washington Park Home Tour 2008

If you don’t have anything to do tomorrow, and you like the idea of touring homes in one of Denver’s primo neighborhoods, then look no further than the Washington Park Home Tour.

You can drop in at any one of the featured homes, or begin at Steele Elementary. The neighborhood is eclectic – with many scrapes, “pop-tops,” Victorians and post-war bungalows. The home tour benefits Steele Elementary, the local Wash Park elementary school and runs from 10 am until 4 pm. While you’re in the neighborhood, head over to one of the fabulous restaurants for lunch or get ice cream at Dinos’ soda bar.

Finish up with a walk around the park to work off your ice cream, and enjoy the perfect Denver springtime.  The tulips are in bloom, the flowering trees are radiant in shades of pink and white.  Remember your allergy meds, and have a great weekend!
