Denver Offers a 5-Year Proposal to Show How Tax Money Will Be Allocated to Our Parks

And We’re Starting With Parkhill

In 2018, voters opted for a 2.8% tax increase to help maintain and make space for parks in the Denver area. Now, the city has  a 5 year proposal detailing how that money will be used.

In short, this money will be used to maintain existing parks as well as make space for new land dedicated to the park system. Additionally, this plan shows how the park system will add trails, protect waterways, and increase public right of ways.

So, what’s the goal? The city of Denver wants to make sure that everyone lives within 10 minutes (walking) of a park. Think about that for a second…do you? If not, how will having a park nearby change your daily routine?

I’m lucky to live very centrally in Denver, which means I can get to Congress Park, Cheesman Park, City Park and Washington Park in a matter of minutes. But that’s not the case for everyone.

This money is going to neighborhoods that have been void of parks and outdoor opportunities. The community has spoken! Park access and amenities are important aspects of Denver living!

Parkhill Makes Moves

29th and Fairfax is getting a park! Well, a park upgrade. This area hasn’t been updated in years. Here’s what you can expect if you live in the Parkhill area:

  • Green, green, and more green! Bring on the grass!
  • New play structures and play equipment
  • Seating areas for your summer picnic
  • An art wall
  • Shade….for those of us that burn easily like myself!

Additionally, this project is expected to be complete in the next year and a half. I don’t know about you, but I’m chomping at the bit to see it get done!
