What's To Love About Belcaro | Denver, CO

The Belcaro neighborhood is one of the most coveted neighborhoods in Central Denver. This quiet enclave of oversized lots is lauded as being stately while also unpretentious.  Belcaro is also a short distance to both downtown Denver and Cherry Creek North. Located just east of the Bonnie Brae and Washington Park neighborhoods, it is easily accessible to I-25 and the light rail system.

The jewel of Belcaro is the historic Phipps Mansion which is located at 3400 Belcaro Drive. Lawrence C. Phipps, the treasurer of Carnegie Steel and a U.S. Senator, hired Charles A. Platt & Sons to design the Georgian mansion. The home was built in 1932 for $310,000 and boasts 27,000 square feet with 54 rooms. Phipps named it “Belcaro," which is Italian for “beautiful dear one."

The property was donated to the University of Denver in 1964. During that time the Phipps Mansion & Tennis Center hosted hundreds of weddings while it operated as a conference and events center. In 2011 the University sold the mansion to private buyers who painstakingly transformed the property into their private residence. Due to this landmark sale, it reinforces the desirability of the area.
