I absolutely love celebrating the New Year. It’s an exciting time–getting together with friends and family to reminisce about the year you’re leaving behind….and looking forward to all the exciting things that are coming during the next! For me, New Year’s Eve is all about celebrating with the people you love the most. I’ve lived in Denver my whole life, and have an influx of fantastic New Year’s memories in this amazing city. I’m excited to have curated this guide to a Denver New Year’s Eve to share with you! So, let’s pop the champagne, grab your loved ones, and head out to enjoy our favorite city! Maybe I’ll see you out there!
Family Friendly
Denver is home to a plethora of family friendly New Years’s activities. Here are some of my favorites!
Zoo Years Eve: This end-of-the-year party is all about the little ones, with an early New Year’s celebration complete with a “midnight” countdown at 9 p.m. The party features a magician, assorted live entertainment, games, face painting, and a DJ. Zoo Lights is big attraction: Images of elephants, birds, gorillas and bears come to life in lights, turning the park into a neon-hued wonderland. Zoo Year’s Eve kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on December 31 at the Denver Zoo, 2300 Steele Street. This is the perfect event for kids and adults alike! Happy Celebrating!
Admission: $7 to $11 and includes all activities.
Bunk with the Beasts: Back at the Denver Zoo…..Children are invited to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a sleepover at Denver Zoo’s Bunk with the Beasts adventure! They will explore Zoo Lights, and celebrate the new year in a safe and fun environment, while parents get a night out on the town! The evening will include a pizza dinner, an evening snack, and a warm morning breakfast.
Admission: Tickets are $75 for non members, $65 for members.
Children must be 5-13 years old.
NYE Fireworks Downtown Denver: The sky will sparkle over downtown Denver at the close of 2018 with their annual New Year’s Eve Fireworks! The two spectacular fireworks shows will occur at 9 p.m. and midnight. I would recommend finding a spot along the 16th Street Mall. The fireworks shows will be synched to a music playlist from live DJs along the mall. Each show will run for about eight minutes and can be viewed from anywhere along 16th street. The DJs will play tunes from 8 p.m. to midnight!
Admission: FREE!
Sharkey’s New Year’s Eve for Kids: The Downtown Aquarium is a fun place to visit year-round, but on New Year’s Eve, it will be dressed to the nines for New Year’s! The Aquarium will host Sharkey’s New Year’s Eve party just for the kids, with lots of fun activities! The party will have a beach ball and balloon drop, contest, animal interactions and a whole lot more that will allow the kids to ring in the New Year in style.
Admission: Kids (3-10) are $19.99 and adults are $28.99. Reserve your spots!
Skate the Lake: Evergreen, CO is one of my favorite mountain towns. It’s close, and has fantastic restaurants and hiking. Evergreen Lakehouse is hosting a family friendly New Year’s event with skating, toasted marshmallows, hockey, music, and fireworks shows throughout the event.
Admission: Tickets $20. VIP parking $25.00.
Firework show begins at 8pm. Open skating until 10pm.
Noon Year’s Eve: Do you have little ones who just aren’t ready to stay up until midnight (or maybe you feel that way, too?!). The Children’s Museum is bringing the sights, sounds and excitement of Times Square to your family- all before bedtime! There will be New Year’s countdowns and ball drops every hour from 10 am – 4 pm – outside on the Plaza, led by the Master of Ceremonies.
