Originally known as the Garden of Angels, Red Rocks Park was purchased by the City of Denver in 1927. Architect Burnham Hoyt designed the amphitheater that opened in 1936, and musicians of all kinds have aspired to play on its stage ever since.
Denverites are proud to say that the world-renown venue sits in our backyard, yet many of us have forgotten all that the park has to offer. While we could never forget that Red Rocks Amphitheater is one of the greatest places in the world to see a concert, a smaller portion of Colorado residents take advantage of the other attractions and events that go on in the park. Less than an hour from Denver, Red Rocks Park also has some easily accessible hiking and biking trails with remarkable views. In the amphitheater itself, regular events include Yoga on the Rocks and Film on the Rocks. While early risers may be more interested in the park’s fitness challenges such as Yoga on the Rocks, night owls should check out Film on the Rocks, an event series where the Denver Film Society partners with Red Rocks to bring classic and popular movies to the stage on select weeknights. The park also hosts occasional church services, and is a great location for private events. No matter what we’re there for, Red Rocks’ colossal rock formations and the sweeping valley views seem more amazing every time, and we are reminded each time we go that there is truly no better place to see the stars—or the sunrise.
